The Letsip tonue stopper is a new straw/ mouthpiece that passifies the tongues rigid movements and it has a patentes tongue stopper.

Through the aid of this straw, the child can progress from smacking on the straw to achieve propper suction.

The texture of the drink is essensial for the drink to pass correctly throug the throat and not into the airways. This is important so the child does not develop aversion towards the straw.

When a new drinking technique has been established, one can gradually move towards thinner fluids. Caution and patience is important. Don´t push the drink onto the child, but tempt the child to want it, so the child will want more from the mouth piece. Some children progress quickly from a nursing bottle via Letsip and onwards to cup or regular straw. Other will nedd maintainance and further training with Letsip so they don´t go back to old techniques.

The straw is not intended to replace ordinary drink at first, but is offered to the child as a treat. If the child realy wants what offered, it´s a lot easier to change the drinking patern.

TIP: Hold a finger under the lower lip, and press this towards the tongue stopper, this is to eliminate any room for the tongue.

If the child rejects this way of drinking, then abort the attempt and try again at a later stage.

Children are very different, and if they don´t want it put it away until they are more cooperative. The ages between 1 and 3 are challenging, and the child´s own opinion can not always be negotiated.

The child must like and want what is given it.

To check if the child enjoys the drink one should always let them taste it from a spoon first.

The rule of “one change only at a time” goes here too, only change either texture or taste, but not both.

If one makes mistakes in the beginning, the child could associate the Letsip mouthpiece with something that didn´t taste nice or that made it cough. This may make further training difficult.

It is not recommended that one start with a thinly textured liquid. This is due to the child not having the technique needed to swallow such a liquid in this new manner yet. Patience.

Several children have tried the new straw, and it has shown good effect from 7 to 9 months age and upwards to any age.

Suitable for children, juveniles and adults for both training and maintainance. Suits Downs syndrome, CP, hypotoni etc.
